UA running back eyes two records this weekend

Cedric Mason- Touchdown Alabama Magazine

How much history is left for Alabama running back Derrick Henry to chase?

He has totaled three 200-yard rushing performances and currently holds the longest streak of consecutive games with a rushing touchdown (16). Henry is tied with ex-Alabama running back Trent Richardson for the most rushing touchdowns in a single season, 21. The junior is a finalist for the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Doak Walker Award and Heisman Trophy.

A great season would be an understatement for him as he’s rushed for 1,526 yards and 21 touchdowns on 249 carries. He has averaged 138.73 yards per game and 166.1 yards against Southeastern Conference opponents; however, Henry eyes a chance at two records this week.

Former SEC players Tim Tebow and Tre Mason are tied with 23 touchdowns, the most in conference history in a season. Three rushing scores against Auburn would give Henry the record. Two touchdowns in this year’s Iron Bowl would tie him with Tebow and Mason, while one score gives him Alabama’s season mark at 22.

Saturday will be a pivotal day for Henry and the Crimson Tide at Jordan-Hare against Auburn.
