Alabama has added five-star athlete Cam Akers to the 2017 recruiting class. Akers is the sixth commitment of the class and is the second athlete to be added in less than a week after the addition of Tanner product Chadarius Townsend last Wednesday.

A jack-of-all-trades for Clinton (MS) High School, the 6-foot, 210-pound Akers has thrown for 2,681 yards through two seasons at the helm as quarterback for the Arrows while also accounting for 1,580 yards rushing over that same span. He is considered by many to be the top prospect in the state of Mississippi for the class of 2017.

This is the second commitment of a player with ideal running back size for the Crimson Tide in the last few weeks with 2016 prospect B.J. Emmons making his commitment on July 20th. Nick Saban and his staff are obviously looking to add serious depth to the running back position in the coming years.

From our analyst Justin Wagner: “Cam Akers is an explosive back who can change a game on one play with his balance, agility and downhill speed. He could be a scary combination alongside Najee Harris.”

Akers was recruited to Alabama by defensive line coach Bo Davis and running backs coach Burton Burns. According to Akers’ announcement on Twitter, “… Bama just feels right.”
