A’Shawn Robinson, Spring injuries

Alabama’s defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson was carted off the field after the team’s ninth practice Monday. The 6-foot-4, 312-pound junior is a leader on the Crimson Tide’s defensive line. Robinson hurt his right ankle, but it doesn’t appear to be anything serious.

He played in 14 games last season, totaling 49 tackles (6.5 for loss), three pass breakups, a forced fumble, a blocked extra point and five quarterback hurries. Robinson anchored a defensive line that allowed 88.6 yards rushing in 2014, prior to Alabama’s matchup against Ohio State in the 2015 Sugar Bowl.

Robinson showed signs of productivity as a freshman in 2013. He saw action in 13 games with two starts. Robinson posted 38 tackles (eight for loss), 5.5 sacks, five quarterback hurries and a blocked kick.

He performed well in Alabama’s first spring scrimmage Friday. Robinson had three tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown. The Crimson Tide will be without running back Bo Scarbrough and wide receiver Cam Sims for a while. Both players suffered knee (ACL) injuries and will require surgery along with rehabilitation. Alabama can’t afford to lose Robinson. Head coach Nick Saban doesn’t know the extent of Robinson’s injury, but according to Matt Zenitz of al.com, the injury doesn’t seem serious.
