Last night, #1 linebacker in the nation, Lyndell “Mack” Wilson, was supposed to be the spectacle to see in the Crampton Bowl. But when Lee ran opposite of Wilson (4 solo tackles, 2 assisted) the entire night, a different star stole the show.

Lee’s junior running back Daimion Wright came out swinging and never looked back, as he was undoubtedly the difference maker in this heated rivalry game. He started out early with two touchdowns in the first half, helping extend Lee’s lead to 28-0 at the half. “It felt great to come out quickly in the first half. I kept telling my line to keep chopping, and they made it happen for me” said Wright.

In the second half, Carver seemed to be inching their way back in the game after a blocked field goal before half a blocked punt early in the second half. The blocked punt led to a score and Carver’s defense came up with a big stop that led to another score, making it 28-13. But then Carver’s DJ Patterson threw an interception and “D-Train” and company sealed the deal for Lee, making it 34-13, which would be the final score. Wright finished with 22 carries for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night. “Daimion Wright did a pretty good job tonight, we moved him from safety to running back this spring, and he’s still green at the position, so the sky is the limit for that young man. said Lee head coach Tyrone Rogers.

This was the first time that Lee (2-0) has beaten Carver (0-1) since 2002, a thirteen year long drought that Lee knew they had a chance to end and the former safety, now running back helped prove them correct. “It’s real special for these seniors. I wanted these guys to be able to have the opportunity to beat Carver, and they did that,” said Rogers. When asked how it felt to get a big win like this, Damion Wright could only respond with, “It’s a blessing.”

Wright was spectacular last night, displaying outstanding vision and shiftiness, making Lyndell Wilson overrun him, or just flat out miss him a number of times. If you were watching it, you would have never thought that he was a safety. Daimion Wright is a 2017 prospect to keep your eye on in the near future.
